Q & A With artist Mark Humes About Boreas
Why Did you make Boreas?
I want to create the Winter season as a living thing. I have done battle with it my whole life and feel it was time I gave it a face.
What does Boreas represent?
Boreas is the face of the Winter season and cold. It represents the season having a personality and will of its own.
What inspired Boreas?
My relationship with the cold. Winter is always a battle for me as if an entity is working against me. It hindered my movement, brought me pain and illness. There seems to be power in given a thing a name and face. So, the inspiration for this work is surviving the winter.
How did you make Boreas?
I used a now-obsolete graphics program I chose to keep a trade secret and the touchpad on my laptop computer.
What does The artwork Boreas mean?
It means standing up to the adversity of nature and making a living in the harshest of conditions.
